You never know when inspiration is going to strike! I was doing some shopping for Back to School a few weeks ago and stumbled onto some metal Halloween decor. They had some funky birds with funny hats. I knew immediately they would so much cuter made out of paper. Especially the new Scraingbone and Howlstooth DSP! I was beyond thrilled when I received my SU Artisan box this month with this paper in it! So, without further adieu, here is my first Artisan project for September:
Meet Mr. Spooky Owl. Or Mr. Halloween bird. Or Mr. Scaringbone.. I don't know, btu whatever his name is, he was SO FUN TO MAKE!
I started with his body, which was made using the Oval Accents Die. I cut two of them and then created a "box" by making sides to go between both pieces. Yea, I know, hard to explain.
His hat was the same way. Again, lots or redoing. I had to finally just accept it as is... I like it now, but it took me a while to be OK with it! Sometimes what's in my head doesn't always get out and onto paper well.
His tail feathers were made by folding this specific piece of the DSP in half, so that when curled you would see the same pattern on both sides. Lots of Sticky Strip here! That stuff is awesome for these kinds of projects!
And who doesn't love a spooky coffin!? Yea, well filled with candy eyeballs of course! This is a little bitty wooden coffin I bought at a local craft store. I painted it in black (acrylic craft paint) and then, to really make it pop, spritzed it with the Silver Foil Smooch Spritz. Love. This. Stuff!! The coffin would not have been as beautiful with out it.
So there he is. I love him. Not sure he will be packed away with the Halloween decor come November. He's going to need to be a permanent fixture in my craft room all year!
