Postal Blue

Good morning y'all! It's another scorcher here in South Texas. I think the heat has zapped my MOJO! I've got nothing but time on my hands this week and I'm having such a hard time being creative! Why is that!?! I did get one cute card made yesterday that I am excited to share with you.

I've said it before, and I'll say it again, my most used stamp set so far from the new Stampin' Up catalog has to be For the Birds! It was not one that jumped out at me right away, and it was the last one I added to my order, but man, I love it! It's a line drawn image set, which generally requires coloring. And, if you are a follower of my blog, you know I used to refuse any coloring until my mother gave me some coloring lessons! But, I know many of you feel the same way. Coloring an image sometimes doesn't turn out how you hoped. So, one way to use a line image without coloring is to do paper piecing. This means to stamp the image on a piece of patterned paper, cut it out and adhere it to the same image stamped on another (usually white) paper. I love the way this turns out!

You can see I stamped the image on Whisper White, then again on Pacific Point DSP. I cut the mailbox out of the dotted paper and the bird out of the word printed side. I adhered the bird with my two way glue pen and the mailbox with Stampin' Dimensionals. I added a tiny bit of shadow below with my Basic Grey ink and a blender pen. The hearts were stamped with the little postal stamp from Little Labels on some long ago retired newsprint paper and punched with the Itty Bitty heart. One I cut a little bit off and adhered it like it was already going into the mailbox!

Other details:
  • Gingham background created by inking the Striped Embossing Folder with Pacific Point ink and running the paper through the Big Shot twice on Whisper White Paper.
  • Ribbon- LOVE this ribbon! 1/4" Stitched Grosgrain Pacific Point.
  • Whisper White Embossed with Fancy Fan Folder
  • The Basic Black border was cut with the Large Scallop Edgelet and then I added some details using the new Stampin' Pierce Mat.
My inspiration came from three challenges today:

On a side note, I am leaving town tomorrow to spend the week with my parents in Tennessee. I do have some posts planned, but I am not sure if I will get something up everyday (calm down MOM!)  But, for sure on July 1st for the new Stampin' Celebration Blog Hop, Tuesday for Hand Stamped Sentiments and both Friday's for the Friday Mashup! So, don't think I have abandoned you, I'm just spending some time with the fam!

Have a great one!

Taste the Rainbow!

Good morning! I spent the better part of yesterday tying to come up with some swaps for convention. I always struggle with this because I don't wan't anyone to be like "Uh, what a piece of junk!" when they swap with me! LOL! And, the Artisan Finalist will be swapping as well, so now the pressure is really on!!

I wanted to do something rainbow, since I do rainbow stuff all the time. I came up with this cute card, which I love, however it would take WAY to long to make a bunch of them!

I used the Popsicle from the Mouthwatering set. The colors are Real Red, Pumpkin Pie, Daffodil Delight, Tempting Turquoise and Concord Crush.

I added Dazzling Details to each popsicle to make it look frosty!
I did the Herringbone Pattern (see video tutorial here!) using DSP in the same colors.
Last, I tied a piece of Daffodil Delight Stitched Grosgrain Ribbon (this is my new favorite ribbon!) and added the Celebrate sentiment from Topsy Turvey. I used my Stampin' Write markers in the same colors to color the word.

I was inspired by the colors at Utah Divas, although I realized after I was done a used one wrong color! Sorry ladies! :-)

Speciman Display or Beautiful Card?

I am so excited about today's card! I actually accidently did it last week thinking it was for last week's challenge. I do that alot! Thankfully, I'm on summer vacation, so I had plenty of time to get it done!

Our challenge this week at Hand Stamped Sentiments is:

As you know, we did a Stamp Camp last Saturday based around this stamp set. I love it! So many things you can do!
So...... to much?? LOL!! Not sure you could mail this puppy! I guess you would need a large padded envelope and a few extra stamps!!

I was inspired by something I saw in the nature section of the museum I took the kids to last week! It was a big display.. pretty much looked just like this except they were real butterflies with pins in them! Ha!

Stamps: Papillon Potpourri, Teeny Tiny Tags
Ink and Paper: Pool Party, Marina Mist, Island Indigo, Night of Navy
Other: 1 1/4" Square Punch, Elegant Butterfly Punch, 1" Circle Punch, Tiny Tag Punch, Pool Party Twine

Please join us at Hand Stamped Sentiments this week. Making a quilted image is so easy! Well, not with all the sewing, but the blocks! ;-) Can't wait to see what you come up with!

Stamp Camp Projects

This past weekend, I helped host the Sweet Summer Stamp Camp with my friend Erin Gonzales and a couple of our downline. It was a great success! We focused on the Papillion Potpourri Stamp Set and the Elegant Butterfly punch. For the price of the camp, everyone went home with their own stamp set and punch!
We each had a table set up with a project.
I showed you mine yesterday, this Card Keeper and 4 note cards.
My downline Stevie made a beautiful scrapbook page.
Erin did this adorable card with a magnetic bookmark that detaches.

And Erin's downline Mandie made this beautiful card.

Lot's of Big Shots in use!

It was lots of fun and we've already begun planning our next one which will be a Holiday Stamp Camp in October! So, stay tuned for details!

For snack, I brought Lori Heiling's Microwave Carmel Corn. I bring it everwhere, and everyone always wants the recipe! We've decided the appropriate name for this is Crack Corn becuase it's extremly addicting! My husband has me make this for his customers every Christmas as well! Seriously, the best stuff ever!!! So ladies, here it is!

Microwave Caramel Corn
½ C. butter
1 C. brown sugar
¼ C. dark Karo syrup
Dash of salt
Microwave on high 4 mn. in a glass bowl. Stir after 2 mn.

Then add:
½ t. baking soda
1/8 t. vanilla
Stir until fluffy. Pour this over the puffed popcorn (I use one full bag of the popcorn) that is in a large Tupperware bowl (or one that is ok to go back into the microwave.) Stir this up, then microwave for 2 minutes, stirring after 1 minute.

Spread this out on wax paper to let it cool.
Melt 3-4 squares of White Almond bark and drizzle over the popcorn.

The puffcorn I buy is the same thing as "Pirate's Booty" that I see everyehere, but this is much cheeper! I get it at HEB, Targe and almost every gas station around here sells it! It's always $2 a bag!
The puffcorn looks like this:

Artisan Award 2012

Growing up with a mother who is an amazing Artist, I never thought that I had inherited her talents. I don't like to draw or paint. As a kid, I refused any and all of it, to her dismay! In college, a friend introduced me to scrapbooking, and my inner Artist finally emerged! She was lying there dormant for 21 years! Fast forward 12 years, and enter Stampin' Up. Stamping and paper crafting became more than a hobby for me. When I first heard about the Artisan Award, I was in awe. I spent hours online studying the works of these great artist. I threw my hat in the ring last year for the first time. I poured my heart and soul into those entries and truly felt they were the best things I had ever created! I didn't win, but I did find out at convention, I had been listed as one of 30 finalist. I was sad, especially knowing the Altered Book would end up in a vault somewhere (surely they don't throw these things away, right??)...
But, the perfectionist in me went for it again this year! And, on Thursday evening I received a phone call from Stampin' Up that I was in fact, one of the top 20 Finalist this year! I cried. My daughter cried. My hubby jumped up and down for me! It is a thrill for someone who never thought she had the "artist" gene! So, stay tuned, I will find out on July 18th at the Stampin' Up Awards Night if I made the final Design Team. Now wouldn't THAT be amazing!!
Today, I am spending the day with my friend ErinGonzales and two of our downline. We are hosting a Papillon Potpourri Stamp Camp! Here is my project:

I have a project planner in the works that I will hopefully have available by the end of next week! So, stay tuned for a TON of ideas for using this fabulous stamp set and punch!

Have a great Saturday!

G.N.O.!- The Friday Mashup #64

Heloooo! So glad you are hee today for this week's Friday Mashup! It is a FUN one! But, I think I say that every week! We always have fun on TFM!

So here is the "Mashup" Challenge :
  1. Make a project using the " Party Time " theme.
  2. Or Make a project using the " Box in a Bag " tutorial.
  3. Or "Mash it Up" and create a "Box in a Bag with a Party Time theme."
So, my family has no birthdays in the summer. Ok, well Hubby does, but he never gets a party! I do have a Girls Night Out (GNO) coming up soon and I thought it would be fun to make little favors for my girlfriends! I was inspired by the set called Happy Hour.

I just love this set! It's alot more fun and user friendly than a previous set we had that was similar. What I love most are the little add ins for the drinks. The olive, the straw, the umbrella! Fun!! It really takes your card to the next level. I even added Dazzling Details to the rim of a few of them!

And my Bag in a Box could hold a fun little wine glass I though. We have a store here called Charming Charlies that has the most fun things like super cheap jewlery and purses... but they also have silly wine glasses. How much fun would that be to give my girlfriends a silly glass on our night out! This bag would hold one perfectly!

So, do you have a party coming up? Maybe a 4th of July party? Think about it and then make something fun! These bags really are very easy to make! Please make sure you come back and link up with us at The Friday Mash Up!
